Meeting agendas: a love/hate relationship.

Love having them, hate doing them.

Mayonegg

  • George Michael: Oh, wow. Hey, can I bring Ann?
  • Michael: Who?
  • George Michael: Ann. You know, she’s... She’s the girl I’m kind of hanging out with.
  • Michael: I haven’t met Ann.
  • George Michael: Yes, you have.
  • Narrator: Michael had met Ann.
  • George Michael: You let her in. See, that’s ... That’s her right over there.
  • Michael: Oh, Ann. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. I know Ann. Hey, you! She’s got a little hard-boiled egg going there?
  • George Michael: Oh, it’s so cute. She sometimes takes a little pack of mayonnaise, and she’ll squirt it in her mouth all over, and then she’ll take an egg and kind of... Mmmm! She calls it a “mayonegg.” Are you okay?

The little things

I saw these colourful reminders and they made me smile and reminisce back to days where my method of organisation relied completely on scribbles and post-it notes. Nowadays I’m a little more reliant on technology. I’d say I’m quite personally effective, but I’m often so focused on a task list or project I really do forget these ‘little things’. Little things that are too small to make the cut of today’s 4-page priority to do list.

In the past few months I’ve really discovered that routine is important to ensuring I get my work/life balance right. I’m trying to incorporate routine back into my life slowly. For example, Saturday sleep-ins, breakfast in the morning whilst watching the news and reading at least 10 pages of a book before I go to bed every night. Things like keeping on top of washing and cleaning, keeping a tidy office workspace and scheduling time for myself and the ones I love. My weakness is I’m forgetful by nature. If I leave my phone, laptop or diary at home for a day, I’m lost. Sometimes I just need those in your face messages to be at the top of my game, and that applies in all areas of life. The little things are more important to me now, than ever before. Bring back the love notes in the lunch box, and post-its in the fridge I say.
